Sewage treatment is the process of removing contaminants from waste water primarily from household sewage. Through physical, chemical, and biological processes the contaminants get removed and produce environmentally safe treated waste water (or treated effluent). The objective of sewage treatment is to produce a disposable effluent without causing harm or trouble to the communities and prevent pollution.

The water coming out of the septic tank is highly polluted. It will be having high BOD and innumerable number of disease causing micro-organisms. This water has to be treated to certain standards in order to protect our environment. This is applicable to industries, hotels, hospitals, multi storied apartments etc where large amount of waste water is produced.
